Frequently Asked Questions
Everything B2B buyers need to know about working with JSOrient -- from first sample to long-term supply partnership.
MOQ & Samples
What is the minimum order quantity (MOQ)?
MOQ varies by product line and customization level. For standard catalog products, the MOQ is typically 200-500 units per SKU. For OEM/ODM projects with custom tooling, branding, or packaging, MOQ generally starts at 500-1,000 units depending on complexity.
We understand that new buyers may wish to test a product line before committing to full volume. Please contact our sales team to discuss your specific requirements -- we are open to flexible arrangements for qualified long-term partners.
Can I order samples before placing a bulk order?
Yes. We strongly encourage sample evaluation before placing a production order. Samples of standard catalog products are available and are typically dispatched within 3-5 business days.
Sample fees apply to cover production and handling costs. These fees are fully refundable (deducted from your first bulk order) once a purchase order is confirmed. International shipping costs for samples are borne by the buyer.
What is the typical production lead time?
Lead times depend on the order type:
- Standard catalog orders: 20-35 calendar days after deposit confirmation.
- OEM/ODM orders (existing tooling): 30-45 calendar days.
- ODM orders with new tooling/mold development: 45-75 calendar days, depending on tooling complexity.
We recommend placing orders well in advance of your target delivery window, especially during peak seasons (Q3-Q4) or around Chinese public holidays. Our team will confirm a binding production schedule upon order confirmation.
OEM / ODM
What is the difference between OEM and ODM at JSOrient?
OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturing) means we manufacture products to your exact specifications -- your design files, technical drawings, material grades, and tolerances. You own the design IP; we execute production.
ODM (Original Design Manufacturing) means our in-house R&D team develops the product concept, design, and engineering for you. You provide the market requirements and performance targets; we handle the rest from prototype to production-ready product.
Both paths support your branding, packaging, and labeling requirements. Many clients start with ODM to establish a product line and later transition to OEM as their specifications mature.
Can you develop a completely new product from my idea?
Yes. Our ODM process covers the full development cycle: concept review, 3D modeling, material selection, prototype fabrication, performance testing, and production tooling. You will receive a physical prototype for approval before any mass production commitment is made.
To start a new product development project, please share your concept brief, target market specifications, and any reference products. We will assess feasibility and provide a development timeline and cost estimate within 5 business days.
Who owns the tooling and IP for custom OEM/ODM products?
For OEM projects where the client provides the design, the client retains full design IP ownership. For ODM projects where JSOrient leads development, ownership terms are agreed upon in the project contract -- typically the client receives exclusive use rights upon full tooling payment.
Tooling paid for by the client is held at our facility for production use and will not be used for any third-party orders. Tooling ownership transfer clauses can be negotiated for long-term partners. All arrangements are documented in a signed agreement before project commencement.
What materials do you work with for plumbing and automotive tools?
We work with a wide range of industrial-grade materials to meet different performance and cost targets:
- Metals: Chrome vanadium steel (Cr-V), drop-forged carbon steel, stainless steel (304/316), aluminum alloy, and zinc alloy.
- Surface treatments: Chrome plating, nickel plating, black phosphate, powder coating, and anodizing.
- Polymers & composites: Glass-fiber reinforced nylon, TPR/TPE grip materials, ABS, and PP for housings and handles.
Material certifications (mill certificates, RoHS compliance, REACH declarations) are available upon request for specific orders.
Branding & Packaging
Can you apply my logo and brand name to the products?
Yes. Logo and brand name application is a standard service. We support multiple marking methods depending on the product type and material:
- Laser engraving -- permanent, high-precision, suitable for metal surfaces.
- Screen printing -- cost-effective for handles, grips, and plastic components.
- Embossing / debossing -- integrated into tooling for a premium finish.
- Pad printing -- for curved or irregular surfaces.
- Sticker / label application -- for quick turnaround and flexible branding.
Please provide your logo in vector format (AI, EPS, or SVG) along with brand color codes (Pantone or CMYK) for accurate reproduction.
What packaging options do you offer?
We offer a full range of retail and bulk packaging solutions:
- Retail packaging: Blister cards, color gift boxes, hang-tag pouches, and clamshell packaging -- all with custom printing.
- Set/kit packaging: Molded foam inserts in printed box sets, ideal for socket sets and tool kits.
- Bulk/industrial packaging: Polybag + inner carton + master carton for B2B shipments.
- Neutral/white-label packaging: Available for customers who prefer to apply their own labels post-import.
We can work from your existing dieline/artwork or design packaging from scratch. Pre-production packaging samples are provided for approval before mass production.
Can you include multi-language labels and instruction manuals?
Yes. We routinely produce multi-language product labels, safety warnings, and instruction manuals for export markets. Common languages include English, Spanish, French, German, Dutch, Portuguese, and Arabic. Additional languages can be accommodated with client-supplied translations.
Manuals can be printed and inserted into packaging or supplied as a QR-code link to a hosted digital version. All label and manual artwork is submitted to the buyer for written approval before printing commences.
Quality & Inspection
What quality control processes do you follow during production?
Our quality management system follows ISO-compliant procedures across three stages:
- Incoming material inspection (IQC): Raw materials and components are verified against specifications before entering production.
- In-process inspection (IPQC): Dimensional checks, hardness testing, torque/load testing, and surface inspection are conducted at key production stages.
- Final quality inspection (FQC/OQC): A statistically sampled final inspection (AQL 2.5 standard by default) is performed before packing and shipment.
Inspection reports are available for each shipment. Clients may request a specific AQL level or custom inspection checklist.
Can I arrange a third-party inspection before shipment?
Absolutely. We fully support and welcome third-party pre-shipment inspections (PSI) by agencies such as SGS, Bureau Veritas, Intertek, TÜV, or any agency of your choosing. We will cooperate fully with inspectors, provide access to production areas, and supply all relevant documentation.
Please notify us at least 5 business days in advance of the inspection date so we can prepare the goods and documentation accordingly. Third-party inspection costs are borne by the buyer.
Payment & Shipping
What payment terms do you accept?
Standard payment terms for new buyers are T/T (Telegraphic Transfer): 30% deposit upon order confirmation, 70% balance before shipment against copy of shipping documents.
For established long-term partners, we may extend credit terms or accept L/C (Letter of Credit) at sight from reputable banks. Payment in USD, EUR, and GBP is accepted. Other currencies can be discussed.
Sample orders are typically prepaid in full via T/T or PayPal.
What shipping and trade terms do you offer?

- FOB (Free on Board) -- most common; goods delivered to named Chinese port, buyer arranges onward freight.
- CIF (Cost, Insurance, Freight) -- we arrange freight and insurance to your destination port.
- DDP (Delivered Duty Paid) -- door-to-door delivery including customs clearance and import duties; available for select destinations.

Certificates & After-Sales
What certifications do your products carry?
Our products and manufacturing processes are supported by a range of certifications and test reports. Available documentation includes:
- ISO 9001 -- Quality Management System certification for our factory.

If you require certification for a specific market (e.g., UL, UKCA, AS/NZS), please advise us at the project outset and we will assess feasibility and cost.
What is your warranty and after-sales policy?
We stand behind the quality of every shipment. Our standard warranty covers manufacturing defects for 12 months from the date of shipment. In the event of a quality issue, our process is as follows:
- Submit a written claim with photos/video evidence and defect description within the warranty period.
- Our QC team will review the claim within 3-5 business days and provide a root cause analysis.
- Resolution options include: replacement goods in the next order, credit note, or partial refund -- agreed based on the nature and scale of the issue.
We do not accept returns of goods that have been misused, modified, or damaged in transit. Shipping damage claims must be directed to the carrier or insurance provider.
